What is NC Campuses Against Hunger?

In 2012  North Carolina Campus Compact, NC State University, Elon University, Wake Forest University, and Stop Hunger Now came together to host a dialogue about food insecurity at Elon University.  The goals were to gather campuses committed to impacting hunger in North Carolina and across the globe to learn from and inspire each other, to leverage the strengths and resources of North Carolina campuses, and to help campuses develop plans to address the systemic causes of hunger through a whole campuses approach.  A total of 120 representatives from 18 campuses and community partners attended.  Based on the positive feedback and energy generated from the inaugural event, Wake Forest University agreed to host a 2013 conference.  Over 180 students, faculty, staff and professionals representing 28 colleges/universities, and non-profits, convened at Wake Forest University and Universities Fighting World Hunger joined as a sponsor.  After the 2013 conference, NC Campus Compact launched a website with hunger-related information and resources.

On September 26-27, Appalachian State’s Watagua Global Community, University College, and the ACT office join the previous sponsors to host the third annual conference at Appalachian State under the theme “Hunger and…”  Participating campuses will examine the factors that contribute to food insecurity, as well as factors that might alleviate and contribute to solving problems of hunger. Visit the website for more information and to register.
